An Illinois Federal court revealed on Thursday the documents which prove that Jesús Vicente Zambada Niebla, aka "El Vicentillo", son of the alleged leader of the Sinaloa cartel, Ismael "El Mayo" Zamabada, plead guilty to drug trafficking and accepted to cooperate with U.S. authorities.

According to a CBS report, Zambada Niebla, 39, plead guilty to drug trafficking last April 3, 2013 to district Judge Rubén Castillo and accepted in writing a cooperation act with the DEA to avoid a life in prison sentence.

Under this agreement, Zambada Niebla might reduce his sentence from life in prison to at least 10 years in prison and a $4 million fine, if he offers "full and truthful cooperation" which would lead to the arrest of more cartel members operating in Mexico.

Zachary T. Fardon, district attorney for northern Chicago said that this is a step forward in the fight against cartels on the other side of the border.

"This guilty plea is a testament to the tireless determination of the leadership and special agents of DEA's Chicago office to hold accountable those individuals at the highest levels of the drug trafficking cartels who are responsible for flooding Chicago with cocaine and heroin and reaping the profits  in Chicago," said Fardon, reported ABC.

Jesús Vicente Zambada Niebla was arrested in Mexico in 2009 and extradited to Chicago in Feb. 2010 and was in jail awaiting his trial, which will not be carried out due to the cooperation agreement revealed yesterday.
