It seems like Young Adult Novels-turned movies are going for a trend. It started with Harry Potter, then Lions Gate decided to follow with their own YA hits, with "Twilight" (LionsGate purchased Summit in 2012, then distributed the final film of the vampire story) and "The Hunger Games". Now, "Divergent" is taking a page out of the blockbuster formula by also splitting the final book, "Allegiant", into two films.

According to MSN News, "Allegiant Part 1" is going to be released on March 18, 2016, while "Part 2" will be released a year later, on March 24, 2017.

The first of the series, starring Shailene Woodley, hit the box office with $116.6 million in the U.S.

The dystopian film, based on Veronica Roth's book series, tells a story about a society that segregates people according to their dominant personality traits. Woodley's character, heroine Beatrice "Tris" Prior, is a threat to the new system, as she does not fit in to a particular group in the futuristic society.

According to the New York Daily, the news is part of Lions Gate's strategy to turn "Divergent" into the successor of "The Hunger Games". NY Daily reported that Lions Gate Vice Chairman Michael Burns told Variety, "Assuming the movie works as we expect, we like the idea of a 'Divergent' film every March to complement our 'Hunger Games' films every November."

Of course, putting "Divergent" side by side with "The Hunger Games" can be a bit arrogant. Although undoubtedly a blockbuster success, "Catching Fire," the second installment of Suzanne Collins's series was the highest-grossing film in 2013, with $868.4 million under its belt. Next to that, "Divergent" figures are pretty modest.

The second installment of Veronica Roth's dystopian society is set to hit theaters on March 20, 2015. Allegiant Part 1 is set for March 16, 2016, and Part 2 for March 24, 2017
