"Guardians of the Galaxy" writer and director James Gunn has recently confirmed that his film is directly connected to "Avengers 3." It calls to mind the appearance of Thanos, who appeared in a post-credits scene in "The Avengers", plotting his next villainous moves.

Quoting Gunn in his interview with Entertainment Weekly, IGN said the highly-anticipated movie's connections was due to the historical ties between Thanos' daughter Nebula, played by Karen Gillan, and Zoe Saldana's Gamora.

Also referring to Chris Pratt's character Star-Lord's history and his connection with Thanos in the film, Gunn said, "[Star Lord] was abducted from Earth (Missouri) at age 8 and raised in a group of thieves and smuggles called the Ravagers. He's good with the ladies and a little bit of a dick and very lucky. Thanos slaughtered [Gamora's] family and Nebula's, then raised them together as siblings. They were bio engineered to become living weapons, so he's really good at killing people."

Variety said the Thanos character could very well mean that there will be several Marvel character films in the future, including "The Avengers 3." The Infinity Gauntlet, which is a limited six-issue comic book by Marvel, chronicled Thanos' quest to assemble all Infinity Gems to be the most powerful being in the universe, and also documents teams of superhero characters trying to stop this from happening.

Variety noted that the Tesseract, which is a glowing blue cube from "The Avengers," and the red particle cloud called "Aether" in "Thor: The Dark World" are one of these supposed stones. The Aether was handed out to The Collector, played by Benicio del Toro, seen in the "Thor 2's" end credits.

Aside from the film series revelation, Gunn also unveiled new photos of the Guardians in prison garb, Empire said in a report. The photo, which was posted on Twitter, showed all but Groot (voiced by "Fast & Furious 7's" Vin Diesel) wearing yellow jail-issued attire. Also in the photo, Dave Batista's Drax the Destroyer seemed to have not been keen with a shirt and just opted for pants.

Variety said "Guardians" will be hitting the theaters on August 1 this year.
