Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat representative, leader of the minority in the House of Representatives and one of the main promoters of immigration reform in the US, said on Thursday that she will continue to push for this measure to be discussed before the November elections.

During a press conference offered yesterday at the US Congress, Pelosi suggested that racial subjects have influenced in the posture of Republicans in the House of Representatives, who have suspended the immigration reform projects approved by the Senate in June 2013 and earlier this month.

"I think race has something to do with the fact that (Republican leaders in the House of Representatives) are not supporting immigration reform," Pelosi considered, according to The Huffington Post.

Last week, the Budget Committee reject a Democrat amendment based on plan S744, project suspended in the House of Representatives since last June, reported Think Progress.

Unlike S744, the new amendment applies a measure promoted by Republicans which grants $30 million for the security budget to hire 21,000 new Border Patrol agents and the construction of new parts of the border wall.

This scenario has led many to wonder what the real reasons are for Republicans to block the awaited reform that would provide a way to legalize the immigration status of almost 11 million undocumented immigrants.

"I've heard them say to Irish people, 'if it were you alone this would be easy,'" said Pelosi on Thursday, for whom the racial factor is an important part of the Republican's reluctance.

A national tour to promote immigration reform

On Wednesday, March 9, the Democrat said she would go on a national tour to raise awareness on immigration reform, subject which has been ignored in recent months.

According to Político, Pelosi considers that this subject must be the main focus of attention for Democrats, instead of seeking a majority in the House of Representatives.

"This is the biggest thing we could do, and that's why I told the Speaker of the House, the press, these groups, that I'd prefer to see immigration reform approved than winning the November elections," said the Democrat representative.
