Out of a total 731 votes, 510 people voted for the S III, 206 favored the iPhone 4S, leaving 15 votes for "other" phones (poll still open, scroll down for viewing).
These results match up with the tide of positive reviews from both analysts and consumers that favor the S III to the 4S.
The iPhone 4S is now being sold for $148 with a contract at Wal-Mart, competing against the S III at $199 with a contract at retailers.
When iOS 6 launches, it will be available as a free update for the iPhone 4S, theoretically enhancing its value to consumers. As we previously reported, an iPhone 4S with iOS 6 would still be slower than the Samsung Galaxy S III. The overwhelming response in favor of the S III indicates that the 4S's reduced price point may have overshadowed by the S III's spec advantage.
iOS 6 features an enhanced version of Siri, improved vector based maps, enhanced Facebook integration, shared photo streams, Passbook, Facetime, a redesigned email interface, improved Safari internet browsing, and Guided Access.
Passbook allows iPhone owners to conduct digital transactions using their smartphone, Facetime now works over cellular networks, and Guided Access enhances the device's usability for those with vision, hearing, learning, and mobility disabilities.
The results of the poll suggest that the device itself has a larger influence in purchasing decisions among smart phone users, explaining the S III's edge. The Galaxy S III's recent launch of Red, Brown, and Black versions of the phone has also recently refocused attention on Samsung's handset.
Lastly, with the iPhone 5 looming just over the horizon, it would not be far off to assume that demand for the 4S has simply dwindled as people save their money for Apple's new device.
