Four small Latino children who had been kidnapped from their grandmother's house in Boyle Heights, California, were found yesterday by Border Patrol agents in the border between Mexico and the United States.
Verónica and Janeth, two one year old twins, 5-year-old Justin and 7-year-old Enrique were taken from their grandmother's house on Friday, March 14 by their parents, Enrique Félix and Rose Chaidez, both of them 28 years old, who had lost custody of their children due to domestic violence reports, according to the NBC.
The four children were under the care of their grandmother, María Chaidez, who said that on the weekend her daughter showed up with her partner at around 12:30 last Friday, and took the children by force, according to a report published by the ABC.
Although initial investigations feared that the children would be taken back to Mexico by their parents, the four brothers were found in good health on Tuesday near the border.
According to Univisión's website, the children had been handed over to their grandmother on their father's side on Tuesday morning, four days after the Amber alert was activated in California in a desperate attempt to find the children.
Félix, the father of the children, has a criminal record, which is why when he felt persecuted, he handed over the children to his mother.
"What happened was that at 10:30 of this morning (on Tuesday), the grandmother, Enrique Félix' mother, called us to tell us she was on the border and that she had the children with her," said Martín Baez, captain of Los Angeles police, according to Univisión.
For the moment, the four brothers have been taken to Los Angeles, where the office of Child Protection Services will decide whether they go back to their grandmother's care. The children's parents are sought by authorities to answer for the kidnapping of four minors.
