An unusual incident took place on Sunday when a 3-year-old boy fell from a third floor in Burbank, and was rescued by a Good Samaritan who used a box spring mattress to soften his landing.

Konrad Lightner, the man that rescued the boy and his wife, Jennifer, noticed that the boy was at risk from filling from the apartment's window, and ran to get the mattress out and placed it on the floor to catch the boy, according to CNN.

The chief of the Burbank fire department, Peter Hendrickson, said in an interview with CNN that the 911 call was made at 5:30 p.m. local time, 8:30 p.m. EST, reporting a boy hanging from a window at risk of falling from a third floor.

"I'm not a hero," said Konrad Lightner to KABC, a local affiliate of CNN, "I simply went in and tried to help. It's just something that happened and we were there. We were fortunate enough to be there," he added.

In an interview with ABC7, the couple said that on that Sunday they were preparing to move to their N. Pass Avenue apartment, when they noticed the boy was in danger. Police authorities have said that it was the Good Samaritan's rescue instinct that saved the boy's life.

"It felt like I was watching a TV show, like that wasn't happening to me," said Konrad.

"It was very surreal after (...) We were moving for most of the day and then we'd look at each other as if saying 'That happened. It was real'", Jennifer told the network.

The parents of the boy were alerted after the incident. The boy was transported to a nearby hospital for a check-up.
