A news helicopter suddenly crashed near the Space Needle in Seattle, killing two, injuring another and setting cars on fire.

The Seattle Fire Department said that a 37-year-old man was reported as severely injured at the Harborview Medical Center after a helicopter crashed on Broad Street, damaging two cars on the Monday of Tuesday, March 18, according to a report by CNN.

CNN affiliate KING5 confirmed the death of two KOMO news collaborators, after a news helicopter in which they flew crashed at around 7:45 a.m. on Broad Street next to Fisher Plaza, not far from KOMO's building, from where it took off minutes before it crashed.

According to NBC, Seattle residents shared their experience of the moment of the crash. Ryan Kirk, who worked three blocks away from the Space Needle, said that at the time of the accident he was walking to a cafe when he heard the crash. "I saw the black smoke rising next to the Space Needle. I knew it was serious," he said, adding that there were pieces of the helicopter on the street.

On his part, Eric Lundberg, who worked in a construction site near the zone of the accident also described the scene. "I was on the sixth floor and I heard the crash. I ran to the window and saw the flames go up and people running away. People on the building next door were running to the evacuation center."

Through its Twitter account, the Seattle Fire Department shared images of the accident, which shows the area being cordoned off and with a white sheet covering the remains of the helicopter.
