Microsoft founder Bill Gates takes the crown again for being the richest person in the world. With a net worth of $76 billion, the tech mogul reclaimed the spot, toppling telecommunications king Carlos Slim Helu, who takes second place, with a net worth of $72 billion.

With this comeback, Gates topped the list fifteen times in the last 20 years, according to Forbes.

Gates' fortune rose by $9 million from last year, and according to the magazine, "After years focused on his philanthropy, Gates plans to spend more of his time working with product managers at Microsoft as rivals like Google and Apple continue to outshine the company in the market."

Gates has also given more than $28billion in his lifetime, and his foundation is continuing its quest to eradicate polio in developing countries, and getting fellow billionaires more involved in philanthropic activities.

Forbes annual list of the richest made a record of 1,645 billionaires with a total of $6.4 trillion in net worth. Only a little over 10% of women made the list, with 172 compared to last year's 138.
