Microsoft founder Bill Gates has recovered the first position on the list of richest people in the world, compiled yearly by Forbes magazine.

The new list, released on Monday, March 3, estimated Bill Gates' fortune to be around $76 billion dollars, $9 billion more than last year, and so the billionaire has once more taken the title of world's richest man, unseating Mexican businessman Carlos Slim, Mexico's largest telecom investor, and the only billionaire in the top ten of Forbes whose fortune decreased.

In the past four years, Carlos Slim had been the main figure in the annual billionaire ranking made by the magazine; however, Bill Gates has once more returned to the top position among the world's richest people, a position he has occupied for 15 of the last 20 years, according to the AFP.

According to the quoted source, the Mexican business tycoon's fortune was affected by the devaluation of stock of his mining company Frisco and América Móvil, which registered losses for over $1 billion dollars last year, and placed him in the second position among the world's richest men with $72 billion dollars.

On his part, Spanish businessman Amancio Ortega, founder of textile group Inditex saw an increase of $7 billion to his fortune, and places him in the third position of the list, leaving list veteran Warren Buffett in the fourth position by a large margin.

He is followed in the list by Larry Ellisson, brothers Charles and David Koch and casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, who managed to add $11.5 billion dollars to his fortune over the last year.

Forbes revealed that the greatest profits in 2013 were made by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who increased his fortune in $15.2 billion dollars with a total of $28.5 billion dollars, a figure that nevertheless ranks him well below the top 20 names in the list comprised by people whose fortunes are over $30 billion dollars.
