The Academy Awards might have been all fun and laughter thanks to host Ellen DeGeneres, but it was a romantic evening for one of the night's cutest couples. Actress Jennifer Lawrence is up for a best supporting actress award for her role in "American Hustle" in the Oscars this year.

Lawrence and her date, boyfriend Nicholas Hoult, seemed to be all over each other at the star-studded event, and at one point, it was certainly necessary when she tripped behind a friend after stepping out of their limo, said E! Online. According to photos taken by the entertainment news agency, Hoult, who was also her "X-Men: Days of Future Past" co-star, rushed to her aid along with an officer who was standing nearby. Lawrence, visibly ashamed about her unglamorous entrance, threw her head back in laughter.

But nothing was embarrassing about the couple's attire for the night. Lawrence was wearing her signature color, this time in a floor-length peplum gown with a mermaid train, with matching $3 million Neil Lane necklace, diamond earrings and ring set, Daily Mail said. The U.K. paper also observed that Lawrence kept her makeup and 'do to a minimum, opting to have her pixie cut combed back and sported natural makeup. Hoult, on the other hand, was handsome in a dark, traditional tux, intending to let her ladylove shine.

Hoult provided much more than being the arm candy of the Academy Award winner. When DeGeneres reminded her about her epic entrance spill in a joke, Lawrence and Hoult laughed hysterically with "American Hustle" co-star and seatmate Bradley Cooper, Daily Mail said.

Hollywood Life also spotted instances when Hoult gazed lovingly into his often unaware ladylove throughout the program. Paparazzi captured Lawrence earlier showed affection to her boyfriend when she guided him through the crowd at the beginning of the ceremony by planting a warm hand on his back, Daily Mail added.

The notoriously-private couple had not made an admission about their relationship to the public, although it was obvious for the world otherwise. When Metro asked Hoult about his relationship with the blonde beauty, he said, "I always find it odd when people look into my personal life. I'm pretty private. The more people know about you and your personal life, or see you out and about, getting a photograph taken, the more difficult it is for them to imagine you playing a character. I don't want people to just associate my work with my personal life."
