"Whiplash" has taken home the Grand Prize Jury award at the Sundance Film Festival.

The film also won the Audience award and marked the second year in a row that a Sundance film won both awards. Last year, "Fruitvale Station" won both awards and became a huge sensation.

"Whiplash" stars Miles Teller and J.K Simmons and opened the film festival. The movie was later acquired by Sony Pictures Classics and is expected be released later this year.

Meanwhile "The Skeleton Twins," which stars Kristen Wigg went home with the Best Screenplay award while the directing award went to Cutter Hodierne for his film "Fishing Without Nets."

"Low Down," starring John Hawkes, Elle Fanning and Glen Close, won the Best Cinematography award. Mike Cahill won his second Alfred Sloan Feature Film Prize for his movie "I Origins."

The winner of the world dramatic cinema Grand Prize went to "To Kill a Man" by Alejandro Fernandez Alemendras. The movie was produced by Chile and France and stars Daniel Candia and Alejandra Yanez.

The Special Jury prize went to "God Help the Girl" by Stuart Murdoch. That movie stars Emily Browning, Olly Alexander, Hannah Murray, Pierre Boulanger, and Cora Bissett.

The directing award went to Sophie Hyde for "52 Tuesdays." The Australian feature stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Del Herbert-Jane, Imogen Archer, Mario Späte, Beau Williams, Sam Althuizen.

The Sundance Film Festival is known for being one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. The movie has helped launch the careers of new filmmakers and many of the films that come out of the festival garner Oscar nominations, such as "Frozen River," "Beasts of the Southern Wild," and "Winter's Bone."
