In a bid to increase more Americans to sign up for the Affordable Care Act, or otherwise known as Obamacare, the White House has tapped an NBA legend to promote it. NBA Hall of Famer Earvin "Magic" Johnson is the latest endorser of Obamacare, a solution that U.S. President Barack Obama's administration found to address issues in the current American health-care system, Yahoo! News noted.

The video (shown below) was released on Wednesday by the White House, and runs for over two minutes. In the advertisement, Johnson claimed that his access to reliable healthcare has helped him from the devastating effects of HIV. A former LA Laker, Johnson was diagnosed with HIV about 22 years ago.

Johnson said in the video, "You never know when you're going to need it. Young people, they think they're Superman, like nothing's ever going to happen to them. But trust me, one day something's going to happen, and you're going to need a quality health plan, so make sure you get Obamacare."

Johnson might have been the perfect endorser for Obamacare. He has over 1.8 million Twitter followers and more than 2.7 million Facebook likes on his official page, and his endorsement of the state health plan could help increase enrollments for the controversial healthcare.

Americans' reception of Obamacare was not that healthy. In Illinois, for example, state numbers showed that around 61,000 have signed up for an insurance plan through the Obamacare website of the state, said a Fox News report. State Sen. Dave Syverson, R-Rockford said that this was an outrageous figure, considering that Illinois had been campaigning for the Affordable Care Act for the past few years.

On the other hand, the discouraging number of enrollees in the Obamacare rollout has not worried U.S. health insurers, said a Washington Post blog post. Top health executives had expressed confidence with Obamacare, and said the Affordable Care Act could be a big growth opportunity.

Wellpoint President Joe Swedish confided to the Post, "We believe that over time, a lot of these bumps will work themselves out.We have always expected it to have a sort of lumpiness to it, the rollout. It's certainly become more lumpy than one would have predicted [but] over time, this will work out." Wellpoint is the second largest health plan in the country.
