'Nashville' star, Hayden Panettiere, got mixed reviews about her look during the Golden Globes. Others praised her for being fashion forward with her new 'do and Tom Ford number, while others thought that she could have done a lot better.

The Golden Globes brought the brightest of the stars under one roof, with all the glitz and the glam. While some made waves with their applauded looks, some fell short to their faces - including Panettiere.

According to Los Angeles Times, the actress's "hair was a blond, blunt helmet that was almost too much 'look' for such a petite and young woman...The slicked back and hardened hair, along with the graphic black and white color of her dress, was supposed to be a fashion-forward look but fell short because it tried too hard."

But that's not even the biggest scandal about her wardrobe. According to The Wire, her sin was going against "the unwritten rule of awards shows is that designers approach actresses (through their stylists, often) to dress them."

Hayden, on the other hand, went her own way and bought her gown, and now everyone is shaking their heads in dismay.

The Wire added, "Tom Ford didn't ask Panettiere to wear his dress, so she shouldn't have worn it."

Jim Shi, fashion journalist, also confirmed the report, tweeting "#GoldenGlobes: Tom Ford confirms to me he ONLY dressed #NaomiWatts tonight. Hayden Panettiere BOUGHT her Tom Ford dress at RETAIL. Tsk tsk."

This scandal is so unfortunate for Panettiere since she was excited to be wearing the designer's work for the event. She told Giuliana Rancic, "Tom Ford. It's the first time I've ever worn him, because I've been begging ever since. I feel sexy in it, I feel comfortable in it, and I'm in Tom Ford. I would wear a plastic bag if it was designed by him."

While according to Lucky Magazine, Tom Ford is "one who, customarily dresses only one woman per awards show," the site also noted that Hayden made a "statement" going with her decision to purchase her own dress for the awards.

"It's a weird, hierarchical tradition in a myriad of ways, so it makes quite a statement when a certain Nashville actress overrides Hollywood and fashion's pecking order," the site wrote.
