The San Francisco Opera has announced its 2014-15 season.
The season will open with Bellini's "Norma" starring Sondra Radvanovsky. The soprano will reprise the role that made her a sensation at the Metropolitan Opera in the fall of 2013. The soprano will be joined by Marco Berti as Pollione and Nicola Luisotti will conduct the production.
The company will also present Verdi's "Un Ballo in Maschera," which will star Mexican tenor Ramon Vargas, Juliana DiGiacomo and Thomas Hampson. Dolora Zajick will sing her acclaimed Ulrica.
One of the highlights of the season will be th world premiere of "Two Women." The opera is based on the famous movie, which saw Sophia Loren win the Academy Award. The opera by Marco Tutino will star Anna Caterina Antonacci and Stepehen Costello. Francesca Zambello will direct the new production.
Meanwhile, Luca Pisaroni and Lisette Oropesa will headline the revival of Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro." The opera will also star John Del Carlo, Kate Lindsey and will be conducted by Patrick Summers.
Puccini's two masterpiece's "Tosca" and "La Boheme" will also return to the opera house. "Tosca" will star Lianna Haroutounian in the title role along with Brian Jadge. Meanwhile, "La Boheme" will star Michael Fabiano and Sonya Yoncheva.
Bryan Hymel will bring his acclaimed interpretation of Aeneas in Berlioz's "Ls Troyans." Antonacci and Susan Graham will also sing in David McVicar's production.
Rossini's "La Cenerentola," Flyd's "Susanna" and Handel's "Partenope" will also be part of the repertoire. The season opens on Sept. 5, 2013 and closes on July 5, 2014.
