Sunday January 12, 2014, commuters in major cities throughout the world saw fellow commuters ride the train and subways in their underwear. A report from MSN showed images of common folk walking in the subway areas in their boxers and underthings. (See Images here)

The No Pants Subway Ride, according to the website of its organizer improveverywhere.com, is "an annual event staged by ImprovEverywhere every January in New York City." The movement has gained popularity, starting out as a prank with seven guys and has become an international celebration of silliness.

It added, "The idea behind No Pants is simple: Random passengers board a subway car at separate stops in the middle of winter without pants. The participants do not behave as if they know each other, and they all wear winter coats, hats, scarves and gloves. The only unusual thing is their lack of pants."

In a CNN report, the 13th staging had major cities such as the Underground in London, the Metro in Washington, Mexico City, Madrid, Bangalore in India, the U2 Subway in Berlin, Sofia in Bulgaria, Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, Paris in France, Beijing and Hong Kong in China, Kiev in Ukraine, Brussels in Belgium and Sydney in Australia, join the movement.

There are simple rules to follow when joining the No Pants Subway Ride, according to News.com.au. These include meeting up in a transport route on the specific date without trousers. The underpants are required and flashy designs are allowed. Organizers require participants to look as normal as possible, but without pants. This is for shock value, high impact and laughs from fellow commuters.

In one variation, as reported  by WGN TV, Chicago's No Pants organizers recommended "granny panties, boxer briefs and boy cut underwear."

For those in L.A., pantless commuters would not be cited for indecent exposure. According to LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesperson Marc Littman, "If you're walking around naked, that's a different story."
