The Directors Guild has announced the nominations for Best Director of the year.

The five directors included in the list were Steve McQueen ("12 Years a Slave"), Alfonso Cuaron ("Gravity"), Martin Scorsese ("The Wolf of Wall Street"), David O. Russell ("American Hustle"), and Paul Greengrass ("Captain Phillips").

McQueen's inclusion marks his first nomination with the Guild. His previous work included "Shame" and "Hunger," which were both critically acclaimed.

Cuaron also scored his first nomination with the Guild. He previously directed the critically acclaimed "Children of Men," "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." He also helmed "Y Tu Mama Tambien" for which he was nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Oscar.

Greegrass is also getting his first DGA nomination. The director is best known for "United 93" for which he was nominated for Best Director at the Oscars. He has also directed "Green Zone" and "The Bourne Trilogy." Greengrass first came to prominence after his critically acclaimed "Bloody Sunday" won a number of awards around the world.

David O. Russell garnered his second nomination with "American Hustle." He was previously nominated for "The Fighter." He was also nominated at the Academy Awards two previous times for his work on "The Fighter" and "Silver Linings Playbook." Russell has also directed "Three Kings" and "I Heart Huckabees."

Scorsese has been nominated for eight DGA awards. He was previously nominated for "Hugo," "The Departed," "The Aviator," "Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull," "Goodfellas," "The Age of Innocence," and "Gangs of New York." Scorsese won for "The Departed" and in 1999, Scorsese was presented with the Filmmaker Award at the inaugural DGA Honors Gala. He was also honored with the DGA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.

The DGA award will be presented on Jan. 25, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
