Top 3 finalists Jeff Gutt, Alex and Sierra, and Carlito Olivero crossed vocal swords three times on the finale of "X Factor" season 3 in the hopes of emerging champion in the annual talent competition.

According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, each act had to sing their favorite performance, do a duet with a celebrity, and perform the winning song - which is also known as "the million dollar song,"

Performance night saw Jeff singing with Goo Goo Dolls' Johnny Rzeznik, while Alex and Sierra harmonized with former "X Factor UK" champion Leona Lewis. Carlito joined his voice with Prince Royce's. That was Wednesday night.

Thursday evening found all three acts nervously awaiting the American audience's verdict. But not before a medley of performances paraded their way through the results night show.

Midway through the event, host Mario Lopez revealed that Carlito, judge Paulina Rubio's ward, was eliminated. Carlito, in turn, graciously accepted his defeat, according to Ace Showbiz.

After two hours and performances by Leona Lewis, One Direction, Pitbull, Mary J. Blige, and Lea Michele, Alex and Sierra were finally declared winners of the competition as a stream of confetti fell on them and the entire stage. The duo was mentored by Simon Cowell, who took to Twitter to express his thanks in three words (he previously said he had a nightmare that his proteges lost). Kelly Rowland coached runner up Jeff.

Let's get to know this year's winners a little bit. Here are 5 interesting facts about Alex and Sierra:

  • They're lovebirds in real life.

If you think they've got great chemistry when they're doing their thing on stage, that's probably because they're actually a romantic couple and have been so for the past 2 years. Plus, they've "known each other since high school," according to the X Factor USA Wikia, so there's a lot of history going in between those two.

  • Alex and Sierra auditioned for American Idol's 12th season.

Oooh, they did, didn't they? Yes, but the judges said no to Sierra and let Alex move on to Hollywood week, where his A.I. journey ultimately ended.

  • They're Pescetarians.

Pesce-what? The word just means they're fish-eating people. Or rather, they focus on eating fish and abstain from chicken or red meats, according to their Facebook page bio. But that doesn't mean they don't have their fair share of temptations, like Sierra does.

  • They do college.

Both are studying Communications at the University of Central Florida. Sierra, however, already graduated.

  • Sierra was a champion Irish dancer.

Her Facebook bio said she is a "regional, national, and world champion Irish dancer." Perhaps she would've busted out a couple of moves if she and her other half felt they needed more votes to ensure their win?

The 22-year-olds have a bright future ahead of themselves with their recent victory. However, don't count on Alex dropping on one knee soon - Zap2it quoted Sierra as saying that her dad won't allow that to happen without his permission!
