Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One both enjoyed stellar sales figures within a mere 24 hours of their release - selling like hotcakes. Both gaming consoles were, unsurprisingly, launched within a week of each other, sparking a console selling war between the two rival tech companies, according to International Business Times. However, both firms landed a win-win scenario as their new releases both ran out of stock pretty quickly.

Apparently, the gaming console fever is still raging and won't be coming down anytime soon - it's a holiday must-have gift that many 40 and below individuals would love to own. In fact, both models are pretty much sold out in all major retailers, online or offline. The high demand for the pricey toys is a fact that the Daily Mail calls "surprising," given the high cost of living and the availability of other must-have gadgets.

Although most replenishments will come in January next year, you can pre-order your Xbox One or PS4. If you don't have the patience to wait that long, you can hunt for the gaming console of your choice on eBay. However, be prepared for the huge markup that comes with it, with some selling their units with a 143% markup, the Daily Mail reported.

Beware of sellers that peddle either of the gaming consoles at a serious discount - they're likely to be scammy. That's because the best deals for both gadgets right now come in bundles (console + game). CNet has reported game industry analyst Matt Matthews as forecasting that the two new gaming gadgets "will likely not have official price drops until spring 2015, at the earliest."

If you're super patient, you can wait a couple of months to a year for a discount on these new babies. However, if you're a GameStop PowerUp Rewards member, you may get a unit at a great deal.
