Rockstar Games

One of the most popular video game franchises of all time will be getting its next installment in the coming future. With no solid release date in place, Grand Theft Auto 5 is already looking like it will continue Rockstar's success. Four new screenshots were posted by the developer, creating even more excitement about the game.

One screenshot is simply a shot of a cop car's rearside chasing a giant truck with the story's hero hanging on to the side of it. The second one is a little more exciting, showing a red biplane flying over a river in the countryside. The third shows a helicopter and cop car on the trail of (presumably you) a red Lamborghini-like car. The final shows a man pointing a weapon at a helicopter in the distance.

"Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created," said a Rockstar Games press release.

The game will take place in Los Santos, a fictional version of Los Angeles. Previous Grand Theft Auto players will recognize that a fictionalized Los Angeles was also the setting for Grant Theft Auto: San Andreas. This time, however, the game will most likely eclipse the previous one in terms of scope and depth.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was first announced by Rockstar back in November, 2011.

Details about actual gameplay are slim, but Rockstar has indicated that it is pursuing multiplayer more seriously this time around. Website IGN claims that Grand Theft Auto 5 will have "crews," similar to the ones found in Max Payne 3.

From all the screenshots Rockstar has released of the game, we can at least surmise this: the game will be huge, cover vast terrain (unlike the relatively restricted terrain of Grand Theft Auto 4's "New York"), and feature planes. Planes were removed from Grand Theft Auto games following San Andreas because of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
