NASA announced on Friday plans for what the Agency calls a "NASA Social" to go down on Monday October 15th at its Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex deep in the Mojave Desert in California.
"A NASA Social is an informal meeting of people who use social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Google+. Participants at this event will be provided a unique in-person experience...that they are encourage to share with others through their favorite social network," according to the NASA Web site.

Registration for this event begins at 12:00PM EDT on Wednesday August 29th and closes at 12:00PM EDT on Friday August 31st. Sixty-five participants will be chosen at random from all who have registered to attend the exclusive event.
The Goldstone Deep Space Complex is a massive and remote locale that provides the ability to communicate with spacecraft in orbit around the Earth and farther into the galaxy as well. Among the Goldstone sites to be visited during the Social are: The Apollo Valley, which features the "historic" Apollo antenna; The Mars Valley with its 70-meter Mars antenna, the 34-meter Uranus antenna and Signal Processing Center 10; and the Spacecraft Operations Control Center.
"The antennas of Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex are busy 24 hours a day bringing in data from missions to planets such as Mercury, Mars, and Saturn; as well as moons, comets, asteroids and even missions as far away as the edge of our solar system," NASA says on its Goldstone Web site. "These sensitive antennas are capable of retrieving signals as small as 1 billionth of 1 billionth of 1 watt....a mere whisper."
After the tour, participants will be invited to speak with scientists and engineers from both NASA and Goldstone. They will also be encouraged to meet and greet with other NASA social media followers, space enthusiasts and members of NASA's social media team.
