Apple Inc.'s iPhone 5s has been named one of the 10 best devices of the year, while its colorful counterpart failed to get a mention.

TIME magazine revealed the top 10 gadgets of 2013 and with the likes of the Xbox One, Nokia Lumia 1020, Google Chromecast, and Pebble Smartwatch, to name a few, the iPhone 5s faced some stiff competition.

In the end, the iPhone 5s placed fifth.

"iPhones with an 's' at the end of their model numbers are supposedly snoozers, because they focus on refinements to the previous year's model," reported TIME's Harry McCracken. "But the iPhone 5s introduces two of the best smartphone features which Apple or anyone else has ever come up with."

According to McCracken, the Apple smartphone's Touch ID fingerprint sensor and camera's LED flash scored the gadget its fifth-place rank.

The iPhone 5s managed to beat the Lumia 1020, Leap Motion Controller, Nest Protect, Amazon Kindle Fire HDX, and the Xbox One. The Apple smartphone, however, couldn't beat the Pebble Smartwatch, Oculus Rift Development Kit, and iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina Display, with both tablets tying for second place.

The No. 1 gadget of 2013, according to TIME, was the Google Chromecast.

Do you agree with TIME's decision or do you have another device in mind for first?

The features for the iPhone 5s are, for the most part, the same specifications as the discontinued iPhone 5, such as the 4-inch Retina Display with 1,136x640 resolution, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1080p HD video recording camera, to name a few. The iPhone 5s, however, features a larger f/2.2 aperture for the rear-facing camera with the aim of improving low-light photography. The iPhone 5s utilizes the A7 processor chip with 64-bit architecture, which plays a critical role with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
