Lyon will look to clinch the top spot in Group I when it takes on Vitoria de Guimaraes in the Europa League on Thursday.

The French side currently sits atop Group I with nine points thanks to two wins and three draws. The team leads Spanish side Real Betis by just one point and can clinch if a number of scenarios take place.

A win would assure Lyon first place regardless of the outcome in the game between Betis and Rijeka. The team would also be assured first place with a draw if Betis loses against the Croatian team or ties against it. If Lyon loses then it will finish first if Real Betis loses or draws against Rijeka. A tie from Betis coupled with a Lyon loss would pull the two teams level, but Lyon holds the first tiebreaker, which is head-to-head matches; the French side tied and defeated the Spanish team in their two games against one another.

Lyon opened its tournament with a 0-0 draw against Real Betis before tying Vitoria de Guimarares 1-1 in its second game. The team them defeated Rijeka 1-0 at home before tying the Croatian side 1-1 on the road. The following game was a 1-0 victory over Real Betis.

The Portuguese team has five points but only has a two-point lead over the Croatian contingent. A loss for Vitoria coupled with a Rijeka win over Betis pushes the Portuguese team into fourth place in the group.

Prediction: Lyon wins 1-0.
