A woman was urgently sent to the Orlando Regional Medical Center after she was attacked by a black bear while she walked her dog in Longwood, Florida on Monday.

According to ABC, the attack happened at around 8:05 p.m. local time in the county of Seminole. The woman who has not been identified managed to free herself from the bear and asked for help from a neighbor who called 911.

The source details that the attack took place in the Markham Woods highway, close to the forest area of Wekiva Springs State Park, known as a restricted area due to the presence of bears in their natural habitat.

The Bredenton Herald highlighted that Fish and Wildlife authorities in Florida placed tramps in the area due to the increase in bear sightings in neighborhoods close to the Wekiva River.

The statistics from the Fish and Wildlife point out that only 1 percent of bear encounters with humans involve an attack from the animal. The report adds that bear sightings in the area happen 38 percent on trees and patios and 31 percent in trash containers where the bears look for food.

The source reported that the woman's dog was not hurt.
