When it was announced the Ubisoft's newest IP, Watch Dogs, was delayed until 2014, many were upset. After all, the open-world hacking game was delayed mere weeks before it was set to be released, and many had looked forward to getting the game as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One in November. However, fans may well be happy Ubisoft delayed the game when it arrives in 2014. The CEO of Ubisoft has suggested the game was delayed to ensure the best gameplay experience possible.

As Gamespot reported, during a recent conference call, CEO of the company, Yves Guillemot, was asked about Watch Dogs and The Crew, another new IP slated for a spring 2014 release date that was also delayed. Guillemot stated that both the teams creating the games were "very happy" to have the extra time to devote to polishing up the games and that the developers will use this time to make two "very high quality games."

While Guillemot was speaking about both games, he singled out Watch Dogs as the game that may carry Ubisoft into a strong 2014, and he personally believes that the game's delay until 2014 will allow it to capture some of the best sales of the year.

"We are confident with the game and its ability to be one of the best sellers of next year," said Guillemot.

The developer never stated exactly why the game was delayed, but it appears the game was delayed to help the game reach its full potential.

Watch Dogs allows players to explore a futuristic version of the city of Chicago, where everything and everyone is connected electronically. The protagonist of the game is able to hack into the city systems and use them to deliver his own brand of justice. This includes messing with traffic lights to cause accidents, tracking people through their cell phones, and even causing a power outage to avoid detection.

It will be interesting to see if Guillemot's statements are accurate, and if Watch Dogs is able to overcome the bad will instilled by the delay to become a critical and commercial success when it is released in 2014.
