Rumors surrounding the next pick for American Idol were given new life yesterday as reports emerged that a deal with singer Nicki Minaj was in the works.

Minaj would be joining singer Mariah Carey during the season 12 of the singing competition on FOX. The singer further fueled the rumors by tweeting she had a surprise for her fans last night. That surprise, however, turned out to be the unveiling of a new fragrance.

"Super Bass" singer Minaj, 29, is just one of many stars speculated to be in talks to join in as a judge. People Magazine reports that Latin singer, Enrique Iglesias and singer Nick Jonas were among those being considered.

Jonas, who confirmed that he was in the running for a judge position through Twitter, added "it would be a dream come true if it happens." Other reports signal N.E.R.D rapper Pharrell Williams was also being considered.

Carey, who is the only confirmed judge for the next season, said "As a singer, songwriter and producer, it's going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol," in an statement released in July.

Randy Jackson, 56, a longstanding judge on the show has yet to be confirmed as a judge and is being moved to mentoring position according to US Weekly.

Previous judges include founding judges Simon Cowell, 52, and Paula Abdul, 50, along with Kara DioGaurdi, 41, Ellen DeGeneres, 54, Jennifer Lopez, 43, and Steven Tyler, 64.
