Yu Wenxia from China was crowned Miss World 2012 on Saturday, August 18.
The pageant took place at Ordos Stadium in Inner Mongolia and it was Yu, 23, who won the title out of more than 100 other participants. Yu is a music student who aspires to be a music teacher.
The other two finalists were Sophie Elizabeth Moulds of Wales, the first runner-up, and Jessica Michelle Kahawaty of Australia, the second runner-up.
In this occasion, it was the city of Ordos who hosted the contest. According to the AFP, Ordos is a city that has flourished during the past decade due to a coal mining boom and is now one of China's wealthiest places.
The pageant certainly brought world attention to the city with reports of an estimated one billion people watching the show via TV on Saturday
China has hosted the Miss World Pageant several times and this is the second time the country won the title. In 2007, Zhang Zilin earned the crown as well.
In 2011, Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares from Venezuela won the Miss World Crown. Venezuela has won the title more than any nation in the world. India has won it five times as well as Britain.
