On Oct. 22, Apple is expected to announce several new products to their tech lineup, including the new OS X Mavericks. The operating system seeks to set a new standard for the Mac, and Apple has revealed several features for OS X Mavericks before the big event, showing what Mac owners can expect from the new operating system.

Mac Maps

One of the biggest additions to OS X Mavericks is the Maps feature, which is finally coming to the Mac. The feature will allow users to explore different areas of the world in a standard, satellite, and a hybrid view which allows users to find directions to their destinations. In addition, users can find the best route to their destination through point-to-point directions that can take into account real-time traffic conditions. Once the user finds the best route possible, they can send the route list and map to their iPhone.

Speedy Safari

Safari will be getting an overhaul with OS X Mavericks. The Top Sites feature will be getting revamped, and the new Shared Links sidebar will show links posted by a user's Twitter and LinkedIn friends. Apple has also used Nitro Tiered JIT and Fast Start technology to make Safari faster than ever, and new power saving technology will help reduce the amount of battery Safari programs use on the Mac.

Reading Reboot

iBooks are coming to OS X Mavericks, and users who already have built up a library on the iPad, iPhone, or iPod will automatically see their books ported to the Mac. The iBooks feature in OS X Mavericks will be similar to those found on other iOS devices, such as swiping the screen to turn the page along with zooming in with a pinch. iCloud will also connect with the program that will allow users to save their page across all platforms and keep notes and highlights in the same place in all versions of the eBooks.

Security

To help users remember the passwords for their Apple devices, iCloud Keychain will come to OS X Mavericks. The feature will save username and passwords for approved websites and save them in the iCloud. This will allow user's access to their passwords across all the variety of Apple platforms available. In addition, iCloud Keychain will suggest strong passwords for users if they need help coming up with passwords that are less likely to be stolen or hacked.

Look out for more OS X Maverick news as the operating system gets a full demo during the Oct. 22 Apple event.
