Although the government is shut down, activists remain steadfast in pushing congress to uphold its promise to pass comprehensive immigration reform legislation this year.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, advocates will partake in over 100 rallies, vigils and protests across the country in a national day of action calling for immigration reform.

Below is just a brief list of events taking place in New York City, Miami, Phoenix, Los Angeles and New Mexico. For a full list of events being held throughout the nation, visit www.octoberimmigration.org/events.

New York, N.Y.

In New York City, communities will gather for a March for Immigrant Dignity and Respect, which includes a rally at Cadman Plaza and a march across the Brooklyn Bridge starting at noon. Earlier that morning and prior to the rally, an interfaith service will be held to highlight the moral imperative for Congress to pass just and humane CIR. One service will be held at 10:30 a.m. EST at First Unitarian Congregational Society, on 116 Pierrepont St. at the corner of Monroe Place, near Cadman Plaza. The other service will be held at 8 a.m. EST in Corona, Queens. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, 104-05 49th Ave.

Phoenix, Ariz.

In Phoenix, the March for Dignity and Respect will begin at 10:00 a.m. PST at 909 E Washington. It is being organized by the Arizona Comprehensive Immigration Reform Table, CWA.

Demonstrators will rally to uphold the dignity and respect of all people regardless of immigration status; to protect family unity with a path to citizenship; to stop deportations; to honor and protect all workers; to demilitarize our borders; and to give all children a quality education to fulfill their dreams.

Los Angeles, Calif.

If you live in L.A., then you can join advocates for the Los Angeles March of the Stars starting at 10:00 a.m. PST at Hollywood Blvd and Western Ave.

Miami, Fla.

The Miami March for Dignity and Respect is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. EST at Jose Marti Park 362 SW 4th in Little Havana.

Albuquerque, N.M.

The Albuquerque March for Dignity and Respect will start on 2:00 p.m. PST at the 1 Civic Plaza on 3rd and Tijeras, which is being organized by El Centro de Igualdad y Derechos.
