It’s good to have those blood suckers back. The vampires of Mystic Falls have returned to cast an eerie presence over the haunted autumn months. Not only have they returned in their most well known capacity via “The Vampire Diaries,” but fans also have the pleasure of following Klaus, Elijah and co. down to New Orleans in the new spin-off series “The Originals.” Although fans are well acquainted with the central characters, new territory, friends and enemies will explore new horizons and uncharted territory. So for those wary of change, here’s a bit of what to expect.

The central plot revolves around Klaus’ battle against Marcel to gain control of New Orleans, but while the two characters lock horns on screen, behind the scenes they’re as chummy as ever. In fact, they used to sit across the poker table from each other for hours on end, earning each other's trust.

“Partly, there was a history to draw on of Charles taking my money week after week at the poker table. But also, the excitement of going into a new show,” Joseph Morgan, who plays Klaus, told TVLine. “Charles brings a real vivacious energy to the screen. Then with what I’m bringing, together that creates the chemistry. Part of that is just the joy and excitement of, 'We’re working actors!' We’re doing something we’re enthusiastic about.”

“I think it’s also written that way where it’s like whoever’s going to play Marcel has got to have fun with Klaus,” added Charles Michael Davis, who plays Marcel. “ It’s just written in a way that allows us to express that same enthusiasm and friendship that we already have, in front of the camera.”

For those worried that “The Originals” will mirror “The Vampire Diaries” too closely, don’t fret. Executive producer Julie Plec assures fans that that won’t be an issue. “People are always asking how will it be different, and why should I care about watching two versions of the same world. And that is the key: You just can’t retell the same story with different players in a different location.”

“The Originals” airs Tuesday nights on The CW.
