The release date to "World of Warcraft" has been revealed.

The new film, which is being developed by Legendary pictures and will be distributed by Universal Pictures, will be released on Dec. 18, 2015. The movie is currently being written by director Duncan Jones ("Moon," "Source Code") and Charles Leavitt ("Blood Diamond").

The movie is also currently casting and it was recently rumored that Colin Farrell and Paula Patton were in talks to star in the film. However, their publicists have not confirmed anything.

The addition of "World of Warcraft" to the 2015 slate brings another tentpole into the mix, joining films like "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Batman vs. Superman," "Ted 2," "Jurrassic World," "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay," "The Terminator Reboot" and "James Bond 24."

The release date is a bit odd considering that Dan Brown's "Inferno" by Ron Howard, another major film, will also be released on the same day.

The film will be based on the successful video game set in a universe in which goblins, trolls, elves and humans coexist with zombies, werewolves and even aliens.

The movie has been in the works for several years. Sam Raimi ("Spider-Man" and "Evil Dead") was originally on board to helm the project in 2009. However, he left due to his latest movie, the highly successful "Oz: the Great and Powerful "

"World of Warcraft" is scheduled to start production later this year and will have an estimated budget of  $100 million. The movie will be produced by Charles Roven ("Inception"), and Alex Gartner ("Get Smart") of Atlas Entertainment. Thomas Tull and John Jashui will also produce for Legendary Pictures.
