Jeremy Lin is all set to prove his doubters wrong next season after putting up an immense amount of time and effort to improve his game this offseason.
Two weeks ago, the Houston Rockets point guard had a mini-camp with newly- acquired center Dwight Howard in an effort to master the pick-and-roll even before the start of training camp. Lin also made it a priority to work out his shooting stroke, allowing him to knock down jumpers more efficiently.
But little did everybody know that Lin is a more potent scorer when attacking the rim. In fact, the Rockets point guard has a higher field goal percentage than three All-Star point guards.
According to Basketball Reference, Linsanity shot 63.7 percent at the rim last season - that's higher than Russell Westbrook's 61.2 percent, Rajon Rondo's 59.8 percent and Kyrie Irving's 57.4 percent shooting on the shaded lane.
These stats might be surprising given that Lin had a subpar performance in his first year with the Rockets. Then again, Lin didn't have a good training camp last year after coming off a knee surgery.
Lin, aside from being an adept open-court finisher, certainly has the ability to blow by his opponent with his quickness. Moreover, Lin is a legitimate 6'3", 200-pound player so he really has the size to absorb contacts and finish plays.
Lin averaged 13.4 points and 6.1 assists during the 2012-13 season, which is pretty solid for a point guard. However, the presence of Howard will help Lin further jack up his production because of the big man's ability to draw multiple defenders.
His calculated aggressiveness in attacking the rim, whether to score points or dish for assists, will be critical for the Rockets' success next season.
