Jerry Bruckheimer and Walt Disney will not renew their first-look deal they have maintained for over 25 years.

The studio announced that Brukheimer was looking to make films for a more mature audience that did not work for the Disney brand. The company stated, "Jerry is one of the most respected and prolific producers working in the motion picture industry, and we have had an incredibly successful collaboration over the past two decades and he is a friend to many of us here at Disney. We will continue to work together in the future, and we look forward to seeing more of the films that have made Jerry Bruckheimer a Hollywood legend."

Those wondering if the split will affect the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean" film should not worry. Bruckheimer stated that he and the studio will continue to work on the projects they have already developed. He stated, "I am very appreciative of the wonderful collaboration and support I have had at the Walt Disney Company for over twenty years and the 27 movies we have made together," Bruckheimer said. "The good news is we will continue working together on 'Pirates of the Caribbean,' 'National Treasure' and other projects we have developed together at the studio. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with these amazing people at The Walt Disney Studios, many of whom have become my good friends."

As Bruckheimer moves away from films aimed at younger audiences, he said he plans to return to his more mature franchises. "As we continue to make adventure films, we look forward to returning to films like 'Black Hawk Down,' 'Enemy of the State,' 'Beverly Hills Cop' and 'The Rock,'" said Bruckheimer.

The split comes after a disastrous box-office performance from "The Lone Ranger." Disney was forced to write off $190 million in losses for the picture and then decided to reduce the budget on "Pirates" and take final cut away from Bruckheimer. Disney even admitted that it hired "Kon-Tiki" directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning because they made an epic film for very little money.

"Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" will be released in 2016 while "National Treasure 3" is being developed.
