Mexican band Los Tigres del Norte and singer Olga Tañón will offer a completely free concert on Oct. 8 at the Washington D.C. National Mall with the purpose of supporting immigration reform, reports People.

Organizers expect the concert to last 2 hours, after which they will then invite the audience to march to Congress to express their support for the reform. According to the website, Félix Sánchez, director of the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, said that Los Tigres del Norte and Tañón are still awaiting confirmation from other Latino bands to join the concert.

Quoted by People, Mr. Sánchez also explained that Tañón will begin her show at 12:30 p.m., singing about four of her most popular songs and then Los Tigres del Norte will come on stage.

"The songs by Los Tigres del Norte have been the voice of the pro-reform movement because their lyrics are very powerful," Mr. Sánchez said.

Gustavo Torres, the director of the CASA organization in Maryland, said that close to 20 organizations are sponsoring the concert and the march that are estimated to have a value close to $700,000. Mr. Torres also said that the concert could be the culmination of a series of events that will take place starting from Oct. 5 in 100 cities in the United States.

"We want to excite the people again so that the subject of the immigration reform becomes a priority. There has been a kind of silence, but the people are still eager," says José Eugenio Hoyos, a catholic priest belonging to the Diocese of Arlington in Virginia, according to the report. The priest pointed out that there are close to 200 leaders of different religions that will arrive at Congress to show support for thhe immigration reform.

While Congress continues to debate the immigration reform, Los Tigres del Norte has joined other artists who recorded radio messages in favor of it, like Roberto Tapia, Alan Ponce, Gerardo Ortiz, Luis Coronel and some bands like Tito y su Torbellino and Los Buitres.
