With Apple Inc.'s Sept. 10 event over, the smartphone market has two "s" devices to consider buying: the iPhone 4s and the iPhone 5s.
The features and prices for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 4s are quite different, that much was clear at the Sept. 10 event in California.

The display for the iPhone 5s has not changed from the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5s maintains the 0.5-inch increase against the iPhone 4s with 4 inches to 3.5 inches. The iPhone 4s resolution is 960x640, which is smaller compared to the 1,136x640 on the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 4s and iPhone 5s share the same 326 pixels per inch figures.
When it comes to internal storage models, the iPhone 5s offers more options for the consumer. The iPhone 5s will be available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, while the iPhone 4s is offered at 8GB.
Although the iPhone 4s is only available in one storage capacity model, the 8GB is offered for free when signing a two-year contract with mobile carriers AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon Wireless. The 16GB iPhone 5s price tag starts at $199, while the 32GB model stands at $299. The iPhone 5s' 64GB variant will cost the consumer $399.
When it comes to the processor chip, the latest iPhone 5s has the advantage. Apple revealed the iPhone 5s will come equipped with the a7 chop with 64-bit architecture as well as the M7 motion coprocessor. The iPhone 4s has the A5 chip.
When it comes to wireless connectivity, the iPhone 4s is available for Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, while the iPhone 5s can connect to Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. The two iPhone devices can connect to Bluetooth 4.0.
In regards to camera specifications, the iPhone 5s and iPhone 4s have a rear-facing camera with 8 megapixels. The iPhone 5s advantage is the f/2.2 aperture, sapphire crystal lens cover and the new True Tone flash.
The front-facing camera's features favor the iPhone 5s, featuring 1.2 megapixels more than the VGA-resolution for the iPhone 4s. The FaceTime camera records at 720p HD higher on the iPhone 5s than the VGA settings on the iPhone 4s.
The Apple smartphones record at 1080p HD at 30 frames per second.
When it comes to battery times, the iPhone 5s has slightly better digits. The iPhone 5s offers up to 10 hours of talk time and 250 hours on standby when on a 3G network. Under the same network, the iPhone 4s offers up to 8 hours for talk time and 200 hours on standby. Audio and video playback time remains the same for the two Apple smartphones at 40 hours and 10 hours, respectively.
As seen with the iPhone 5, the iPhone 5s will utilize the Lightning connector while the iPhone 4s has the 30-pin connector.
Finally, when it comes to colors, the iPhone 5s will be available in gold, silver and "Space Gray," while the iPhone 4s has black and white.
While the iPhone 4s is ready for purchase, the iPhone 5s will be available starting Sept. 20.
