Alejandro Fernández Scores His Biggest Sales Week Ever With New Album, 'Confidencias'

Legendary Mexican singer, Alejandro Fernández, has hit another milestone in his career. The artist's 15th studio album, "Confidencias," has scored his best sales week ever, making it all the way to No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums with 21,000 copies, Billboard reported.

Fernández's latest effort also debuted at No. 19 in the Billboard 200, the singer's best position on the chart ever.

According to Billboard, "Confidencias" is the only second Latin album to land a spot in the top 20 of the Billboard 200 this year. Back in August, Marc Anthony's "3.0" debuted at No.5 with 39,000 copies.

Last month, Fernández received Gold and Platinum certifications for the more than 100,000 digital downloads of "Confidencias'" first single, "Hoy Tengo Ganas De Ti," featuring Christina Aguilera.  It is also the theme song to Univisión's telenovela, "La Tempestad," starring Cuban actor, William Levy, and former Miss Universe, Ximena Navarrete.

The album also features duets with Rod Stewart, with whom Fernández sings a new rendition of Stewart's classic "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" as well as with his father, Vicente Fernández. "We threw a lot of names of possible artists to sing with around, because we knew that not all of them would be available, but at the end we have three spectacular collaborations," said Fernández during the presentation of "Confidencias," his first album in more than 5 years.

During the press conference, Fernández admitted the most meaningful of the duets was "Me Olvidé De Vivir," a track he convinced his father to sing just a week after he was released from a surgery to have a tumor removed from his liver. "My dad is very tough, a very hard man," Fernandez said, claiming that his father is not an easy man to convice. "I sent him the song so he could hear it, and afterward he called me and said that this was the best work I had ever done."

Fernández could be seen at the press conference sporting a new image, in which he looked thinner and, according to some press outlets, even younger. Because of the change, speculations arouse that he might have undergone surgery.

But the singer said that although he hasn't done it himself, there is nothing wrong with pampering. "Being conceited doesn't necessarily make you less of a macho. I am very sure of my sexuality, I like women, and if you do not like something, why not go relax and get a massage."

"El Potrillo" will be performing in Las Vegas on Sept. 15 to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
