Jay-Z and Beyonce may have skipped out on MTV's Video Music Awards on Sunday, but they ended up getting front row seats to an alleged celebrity rumble during a post-show after party.

According to reports, the superstar couple got caught in the middle of an altercation between Sean "Diddy" Combs and his rap pal J. Cole at New York's Dream Hotel rooftop party. The New York Daily News reports that Combs and Cole clashed following a heated exchange of words at the bash. Beyonce was reportedly standing by during the scuffle and "was yelling" for them to stop. Eventually, the "99 Problems" rapper intervened to pull the two hip-hop stars apart and was escorted out of the building following the scuffle.

"Diddy got in a fight with someone partying too close to him and his girlfriend [singer Cassie.] It was mayhem. Beyoncé was yelling to stop and Jay Z was separating people and getting people away from Bey," one witness told Confidenti@l. Afterwards, the ruckus escalated and then subsided after about 90 seconds of shoving and bottle-breaking around 1:30 a.m.

"We were all dancing and the fight breaks out, and it happened so quickly and bottles were crashing everywhere, and everyone was screaming. People got pushed into bottles," said another guest. "Then Diddy got up, took the mic and said 'It's all cool! Ya'll keep having fun! It's no big deal, it's over.'"

However, another partygoer relayed a slightly different account, telling the New York Post that "J. Cole was saying inappropriate things to Sean Combs and his girlfriend, Cassie. Sean immediately pounced. Some pushing and shoving happened. No punches were thrown, but it was a visible disturbance." The source added, "A few bottles splashed to the floor and some partygoers were knocked over."

Later on, Combs dismissed the party fight rumors on Twitter as a simple argument between two friends. "I usually don't address rumors but I got too much respect for my bro J. Cole. We are friends. We just yell in public sometimes," he tweeted.

Likewise, Cole tweeted a message denying the rumors writing, "people will believe anything."

Other A-list celebs at the red-and-black themed party included Rita Ora, Jamie Foxx, will.i.am, Russell Simmons, Will.i.am and Busta Rhymes.
