A U.S. court has ruled Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. do not have to make their financial details public amidst the ongoing patent infringement cases.

The Federal U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Aug. 23 to reverse a lower court's decision that originally ordered Apple and Samsung to disclose specific documents pertaining to sales.

"We recognize the importance of protecting the public's interest in judicial proceedings and of facilitating its understanding of those proceedings," stated the Federal U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. "That interest, however, does not extend to mere curiosity about the parties' confidential information where that information is not central to a decision on the merits."

The latest ruling involving Apple and Samsung comes as the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled Samsung violated two Apple iPhone patents and issued a U.S. imports ban, which will go into effect in early October.

President Obama does hold the power to veto the ITC's decision, however, a report stated the move is unlikely.

According to Bloomberg, Samsung cannot issue the same public-policy argument Apple used to sway the Obama administration when the ITC previously banned the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad 2.

The potential Samsung devices ban does not include the Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, or the latest incarnations of the Galaxy Note.

According to Reuters, Apple and Samsung declined to comment.
