The MTV Video Music Awards are just a couple hours away and celebrities and fans are already descending on Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for the big event. Several performers have already confirmed their appearances, but only one group has managed to captivate millions of fans’ attention: *NSYNC.

The boy band, which split up in 2002, has fueled rumors that they would be reuniting during Justin Timberlake’s performance tonight. Despite some members dispelling any rumors of a surprise performance, the band joined Twitter on Saturday night and fueled the flames with a cryptic tweet, “Mic check, mic check one.. two… is this thing on?!”

Timberlake, who was one of the band most popular members, is up for six Moonmen and will perform songs from his latest album, The 20/20 Experience. The singer is also receiving the “Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award,” MTV announced.

Other performances include Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke. There has also been talk that French duo Daft Punk will be making a surprise appearance on the show. Although an appearance has not been confirmed, the duo cancelled on “The Colbert Report” early this month due to a contractual agreement with MTV.

Everyone’s favorite artists are up for several awards, including a new category: Best Song of the Summer. British boy band One Direction is dominating the new category with well over seven million votes. They’re followed closely behind by Miley Cyrus with a little over four million votes.

As previously reported, Timberlake and rappers Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are tied with six award nominations each. The “Thrift Shop” duo will mark MTV history tonight, becoming the only artist to perform at all three of MTV’s televised events (mtvU Woodies, MTV Movie Awards and MTV VMAs) in a calendar year.

The MTV Video Music Awards 2013 begin at 9 p.m. live from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Be sure to catch your favorite celebrities hit the Red Carpet beginning at 6 p.m.
