There's a new twist in the Hannah Anderson kidnapping saga.

A nationwide Amber Alert was sent out Aug. 5 after the 16-year-old teen was kidnapped by James Lee DiMaggio, a family friend who is also suspected of murdering the girl's mother and 8-year-old brother. DiMaggio, 40, was the best friend of Anderson's father and was like an uncle to her and her brother Ethan.

After a multi-state manhunt, Anderson was rescued in the Idaho wildness and DiMaggio was fatally shot by authorities. However, the tragedy doesn't end there.

Some of DiMaggio's family members are now demanding that Anderson and her deceased brother be tested to see if DiMaggio is their biological father. The family suspects that DiMaggio may have had a physical relationship with Christina Anderson, who DiMaggio killed, and that her children may be his and not Brent Anderson's, reports CBS station KCBS in Los Angeles.

The family grew suspicious after it was revealed that DiMaggio removed his sister as a beneficiary of his life insurance in 2011. Instead, DiMaggio changed it to benefit Hannah's paternal grandmother, Bernice, who he left $112,000.

"We are requesting DNA samples from Hannah and anything they can get from Ethan," spokesman Andrew Spanswick told ABC News affiliate KGTV. "There are rumors Jim was the children's real father. The parents didn't marry until 2002. We think it's strange he left them so much money with no explanation."

Brent Anderson called the DiMaggio family's speculation "disgusting."

James Lee DiMaggio played a major father-like role in both Hannah and Ethan's lives. In fact, he and Hannah exchanged about 13 calls just prior to her kidnapping, although the reason wasn't immediately clear. Investigators who searched DiMaggio's home also found letters from Hannah.
