For the second time this year, anticipation is growing over the lottery after the Powerball's jackpot rose to an astounding $181 million.

The next round will be played on Saturday after no one matched the winning numbers for Wednesday's game. Wednesday's winning numbers were 3, 16, 48, 56 and 58 with a Powerball of 4. Saturday's drawing will have a cash value of $123 million.

The jackpot has been building since June 27, and has already rolled over 11 times since then.

Early in the year Lottery frenzy reached its apotheosis when the Mega Millions played for over $640 million. Three different people from Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland took the winnings for that game. For that particular jackpot Americans spent approximately $1.5 billion in tickets for a chance to win the lottery.

The biggest Powerball jackpot ever was $365 million on Feb. 18, 2006. It was won by a single ticket, shared by eight workers at a Conagra meatpacking plant in Nebraska.
