Singer Thalía Goes for Medical Check-Ups After Suffering Lyme Disease

Mexican singer and actress Thalía likes to share the most important moments of her life with her followers on Twitter and Instagram. But she doesn't only post pictures of her son's birthday or her summer vacations, she also likes to let her fans know she faces struggles like anyone else.

That's why the 41-year-old singer posted a photo of herself on her way to a medical examination as part of a strict control she goes through after suffering from Lyme disease, E! Entertainment reported.

"Después de la enfermedad de Lyme, chequeos. Visita al Dr....Vamos pa'dentro!" ("After Lyme disease, checkups. Visiting the doctor...Let's go inside"), the María la del Barrio actress wrote.

The multi-winning award singer began suffering from Lyme diseases a couple of years ago. According to NBC Latino, it's a rare infection transferred by blacklegged ticks, a condition that kept her in great pain for two years.

"With Lyme you have to change your lifestyle, your nutrition; you have to have a more natural, healthy and positive focus," the singer told El Diario.

Lyme diseases affects thousands annually. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2010 there were 22,561 reported cases in the United States, most of them in the northeast, mid-Atlantic and north-central U.S, NBC Latino reported.

Some of the symptoms of the Lyme disease include fatigue, red skin rashes, fever and headaches, according to the CDC.

"It's terrible, you can't control the pain, you know something is wrong with you but you don't know what to do, you can't concentrate. This is an illness that attacks your brain, sometimes you lose your words, your speech, you can't move, or get up from bed," Thalía said during an interview with El Diario.

"Latinos tend to go on picnics on Sundays and we throw ourselves on the grass with the kids to eat. You need to be cautious, because here could be ticks that change every ones lives, from the baby to the grandpa," said the singer.

"After six months I told my husband, 'Come see me today because this is the last day I'm standing and alive. I feel like I'm going to die now '. It's terrible, you can't control the pain in any way," Thalía said during a meeting with the Mexican press when she revealed details of the hard times she and her husband, Tommy Mottola, went through.
