The trailer to the Sundance hit "Kill Your Darlings" has premiered.

The film, which stars Daniel Radcliffe, tells the story of murder that brought together a young Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs at Columbia University in 1944, creating the spark that led to the birth of an entire generation.

With its scenes of Radcliffe engaged in graphic sex, drinking alcohol and using drugs, the film stirred up controversy after its premiere at Sundance in January. As audiences reacted to the film, they asked the "Harry Potter" star why he liked acting in such unique movies. Struck by the scandal, the actor explained: "Films like this don't get made unless everyone involved loves them."

Radcliffe wasn't alone in his admiration for the project. Critics have praised the picture, and its already generating Oscar buzz. Jordan Hoffman from Film.com wrote, "There is a chemistry between [Radcliffe and DeHaan] that is more than just sexual."

David Rooney of the Hollywood Repoter said, "And the Beat goes on, this time in a syncopated study that sheds light in particular on the young Allen Ginsberg."

Variety's Justin Chang was also thrilled with the film: "A mysterious Beat Generation footnote is fleshed out with skilled performances, darkly poetic visuals and a vivid rendering of 1940s academia in 'Kill Your Darlings.'"

Damon Wise of the Guardian wrote, "'Kill Your Darlings' may be best described as an intellectual moral maze, a story perfectly of its time and yet one that still resonates today."

The film also stars Dane Dehaan, Michael C. Hall, Elizabeth Olsen, Ben Foster, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Kyra Sedgwick. "Kill Your Darlings" was directed by Josh Krokidas and will be distributed by Sony Classic Pictures on Oct. 16.
