Apple's new operating system is not only streamlined and intuitive, but also incredibly popular. In the first four days that the Mountain Lion has been released, it has been downloaded over 3 million times.

The new operating system has been purchased and downloaded with such enthusiasm "making it the most successful OS X release in Apple's history."

Mountain Lion was released on July 25.

While it may not be a complete overhaul, there are number of new features.

To begin with, the desktop operating system is more in line with Apple's mobile operating system for the iPad and iPhone, the iOS.

iChat is a thing of the past, and has been replaced by the messages app that has been on iPhones and iPads.

Also new is a notifications tab that keeps Mountain Lion users up to date with everything from email to news to social networks.

The feature that has everyone talking is AirPlay. This allows users with the Mountain Lion OS X to wirelessly stream video and other media onto televisions and other devices.

Upgrading to Mountain Lion is incredibly easy - all it takes is a trip to the Mac App store and a painless download. The operating system won't run on all Macs, however. A step-by-step guide, as well as a list of Macs that can run Mountain Lion can be found at the official Apple website here.
