Sacramento Kings DeMarcus Cousins: 'Nobody' Can Beat Me As USA's Best Big Man

After a tumultuous stint in Las Vegas last year, Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins was called for a second tour of duty as a member of Team USA Select roster this week.

Cousins, who is entering his fourth season with the Kings, surprisingly got a second chance from USA Basketball despite being quite immature in his first stint with Team USA Select last year.

Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski and USAB chairman Jerry Colangelo, who even criticized Cousins' maturity a year ago, are apparently giving the 6-foot-11, 270-pound center all the opportunities in the world to reach his full potential.

In his first three seasons in the league, Cousins has shown great potential at times by racking up dominant performances, though there were also moments were his tantrums caught the best of him.

According to ESPN writer Marc Stein, the Kings 'manchild' is grateful for the chance given to him by Colangelo and even wants to learn the defense-centered role of Tyson Chandler in last year's Olympic team. Cousins hopes that accepting such role will help him secure a spot in the upcoming 2014 World Cup of Basketball in Spain.

However, Cousins' arrogance has been exposed yet again following his comments about who's going to be his competition as the best big man in Team USA Select.

"Come in and try to be the best big [in camp]," Cousins told reporters via ESPN when asked who will be his rivals in the mini-camp. "Nobody."

Cousins is confident that he's the best frontline player in the camp, which also features Larry Sanders, Derrick Favors, DeAndre Jordan, Anthony Davis, Andre Drummond, Kenneth Faried, and Greg Monroe.

Cousins, who averaged 17.1 points and 9.9 rebounds last season with the Kings, might have the biggest upside among the bigs in the camp, but his college coach John Calipari reminds him that talent alone would not guarantee him a slot in Team USA.

"If you want to make [the Team USA roster next summer]," Calipari continued, "you make everybody better or you're not making the team," Calipari told reporters.
