Ryan Gosling is rumored to star in "Star Wars Episode VII."

According to Latino Review, the Canadian actor auditioned for a role in the film. "What I was told for sure is that Gosling went in for Skywalker's son. Yes, that's right Luke's kid," reported Latino Review.

The publication also said that the new film would take place 30 years after "Return of the Jedi."

There has been no confirmation by his publicists or by Lucasfilm and therefore it is unknown whether the actor will even take the role. Back in March, Gosling told the press that he was thinking of taking a hiatus from acting. He said, "I've lost perspective on what I'm doing. I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does."

Gosling has lately worked on many small independent films with very few excursions into big studio movies. His most recent work includes the Indie hits "The Place Beyond the Pines," "Only God Forgives," "Drive," "All Good Things," and "Blue Valentine."

He has also worked on such studio projects such as "Crazy, Stupid, Love" "The Ides of March," "Gangster Squad," and "Fracture."

His upcoming projects include his directorial feature film debut "How to Catch a Monster," which is slated to star Saoirse Ronan, Eva Mendes, Christina Hendricks, Ben Mendelssohn, and Barbara Steele. According his IMDB page, his last acting job was for a Terrence Malick film that is currently in post-production.

"Star Wars Episode VII" is currently in pre-production with J.J Abrams directing, Kathleen Kennedy producing and Michael Arndt writing the script. The film is currently in the casting stages with rumors that Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill will reprise their roles from the original trilogy.

Disney is expected to announce more details on the project in August during their annual D23 expo. Sources stated that part of the cast will be revealed. However, Disney has yet to confirm anything; they are waiting to surprise fans.

"Star Wars Episode VII" is set for release in 2015.
