Those caught between current and next-gen titles and consoles have received some good news from EA, who have announced to IGN that users who buy FIFA Soccer 14 or Madden NFL 25 on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 will be able to transfer their data to their next-gen counterparts, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

FIFA 14, which launches on September 24 for current systems, will have their revamped and expanded Ultimate Team Mode whose data can transfer over to next-gen consoles if and when they decide to switch consoles.

"Fans will be able to access their FIFA 14 Ultimate Team full roster, in-game items and in-game currency (coins) from either console. So fans will be able to compete with their squads on either console throughout the season. Fans who begin their FIFA 14 Ultimate Team experience on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 will maintain their current division in Seasons mode on the new consoles."

This offer will only apply once per console, and will also be available for those who play the similar Ultimate Team mode found in the 25th anniversary entry of the Madden franchise, which comes out on August 27:

"Transfer up to 1,100 Madden Ultimate Team items onto next-gen consoles, giving you a head-start in building your squad...players who log into Madden NFL 25 on next-gen consoles with their Origin Account and respective Xbox Live or Sony Entertainment Network accounts will be able to bring over 100 active items (55 players, 45 additional items) as well as up to 1000 reserve items from their games on current generation systems. These players and items can still be used in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game as well, but cannot be auctioned or traded."

It sounds as though EA Sports is committed to making the transition between their current and next-gen consoles as smooth as possible for gamers who are serious fans of EA's most popular franchises. However, considering that gamers will have to buy the current gen versions of the game, and then buy a next-gen machine, and then buy the game again for that new console may make this offer not worth the price for many gamers. Those planning on buying both versions of the game anyway will benefit, but those on the fence about going next-gen or buying the game twice may not want the hassle and financial burden that this service comes with.
