Verizon will finally begin selling the popular HTC One starting in August, and it looks like the waiting game paid off as the Big Red variant is said to have Android 4.2.2 onboard as soon as it releases.

According to well-known HTC modder and insider LlabTooFeR, the Verizon HTC One will indeed ship with Android 4.2.2 preinstalled.

"Will the Verizon One come with 4.2.2?" asked Danish Sheikh on Twitter.

"Yes it will run 4.2.2 by default," LlabTooFeR responded.

Neither Verizon nor HTC have commented on the matter, but LlabTooFeR's excellent track record regarding HTC news means this little piece of information will most likely turn out to be true.

The HTC One on other carriers such as AT&T only comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. An Android 4.2.2 update for the HTC One is currently rolling out globally, but the firmware has not been spotted stateside, meaning there's a chance Verizon customers will be the only ones in the United States (other than HTC One Google Play edition owners) with an official version of Android 4.2.2 on the HTC One.

There has been no word on pricing from Big Red, although many expect the HTC One to retail for $199.99 with a two-year contract when it releases Aug. 1.

The HTC One features a 4.7-inch 1080p display, a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB memory, an HTC "Ultrapixel" rear-facing camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The phone also comes with Beats audio integration for audiophiles, and the entire handset is encased in aluminum, making the HTC One a top-of-the-line Android option.
