"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry," said Stewart.
Photos were leaked showing the 22-year-old actress kissing the married 41-year-old "Snow White" director. The pictures, allegedly from July 17, were a snapshot of what sources have described as a "marathon makeout session." Apparently, Stewart and Sanders "seemed like they couldn't get enough."
Stewart has been dating Pattinson, 26, for around four years now after first meeting on the set of the "Twilight" franchise they both helped propel into the spotlight.
Stewart's damage-control team stressed that there was no affair between Stewart and Sanders.
"She wasn't having an affair with Rupert. It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn't have happened," said a source to People. "She never meant to hurt anyone. She's a good person who just made a bad choice."
Sanders is married and has two kids, and has not commented on the issue.
The director is slated to team up with Stewart for a "Snow White" sequel after praising Stewart
"There's something very rebellious about her. She's very kind of wild and untamed ... She's got a great spirit," he said.
How exactly this indiscretion might affect the movie remains to be seen.
