Verizon Wireless customers have been waiting for the HTC One for quite some time now, and while there hasn't been any official announcement, a new rumor has been circulating around saying it will be released Sept. 5.

Bad news first: that's most likely not the date, according to @LlabTooFeR. The well-informed HTC modder and insider took to Twitter saying that there is no validity to the date.

The Sept. 5 rumor originated when notorious tipster @evleaks leaked an alleged press render of the Verizon HTC One. Website TechnoBuffalo noticed the calendar on the HTC One read Sept. 5, and all speculation broke loose.

Still, there may be some good news in store as well. HTC recently released its sales figures for Q2 2013 and they fell incredibly short of expectations. Facing backlash, HTC is going to have to be aggressive in order to recapture the market share the company has lost to rivals like Samsung. In light of heavy investor criticism, HTC will be looking for new ways to bring in revenue, and releasing their flagship phone on the largest carrier in the United States is certainly be one.

Apple is also expected to unleash a new iPhone sometime around September, which spells big trouble for all Android handset manufacturers, including HTC. If HTC wants to bring momentum back to its side, it will most likely have to launch the One on Verizon before Apple gets a chance to steal the spotlight again.
